This was almost a carbon copy of last week’s match with Scouts giving their opponents a lead. They came back into the game and finished strongly, but had given themselves too much to do!
The hosts opened the scoring when Scouts were under early pressure conceding penalties near their own line, which eventually lead to the try. The second resulted from a strong driving maul from the forwards. However, this was turned over within the MH 22 and they proceeded to go the length of the field to score. Missed tackles lead to the third score to give MH a 17-0 lead and a heavy defeat looked to be on the cards.
Caleb intercepted a loose MH pass to score under the posts, which Alex converted to make the half-time score 17-7.
Scouts were probably the better side in the second half despite being down to 14 men for part of the half following a bit of “back-chat” and when Ollie S. found a huge hole in the MH defence to make the score 17-12, a comeback seemed possible. However, Scouts then “switched off” to allow the hosts to extend their lead again.
So once again, Scouts slow start proved to be their downfall leaving coaches and supporters alike scratching their heads for an answer!!
