vs Towcestrians L 41-18
(Tries: Luke, Jack, Alex M; Pen: Caleb)
Although the final score suggests that this was a hammering for Scouts, there wasn’t that much between the 2 sides. The main difference being that Tows capitalised on Scouts mistakes and made fewer of their own.
Scouts started brightly, but an interception gave Tows an early lead and then a combination of missed tackles and handling errors led to 2 more scores, before Scouts got on the scoreboard. A catch and drive from a line-out resulted in Luke scoring for Scouts during their best spell of the half. Caleb added a penalty kick to reduce the deficit further, however Tows responded again to lead 34-8 at half-time.
The second half was a much more evenly contested affair with Scouts possession and territory resulting in Towcester repeatedly being penalised for offside and infringements at the ruck. Scouts scored a further 2 well deserved tries, with Jack touching down in the corner and Alex M crossing the line, again following good sustained Scouts pressure.
Despite the scoreline, there were promising signs for this fledgling team against a side in the league above them, especially in the second half when the team began to get used to each other and the error count was significantly reduced.
