Good to see the boys back on the field and playing with smiles on their faces. We welcomed 4 new debutants to the team today and they didn't disappoint. Well done to Kian, Toby, Jayden and Jacob - we hope you enjoyed your first run out in Scouts colours.
Harborough dominated in the first 20 minutes with both territory and ball in hand. After Scouts conceded an early penalty, the away side took a 0-3 lead which led to them having the confidence to run in the first try of the match shortly after. At the end of the first 20 minutes Scouts trailed 0-15.
The second 20 minutes saw a change in Scouts personnel and also the score line. Scouts quicky started to find their feet, taking the game to Harborough. On debut Toby got Scouts off the mark taking the ball over the whitewash for a great team try. The conversion was nicely taken by Jack and then followed by further tries from David & Oliver Bartlett-Syree (OBS). Closing the second period Scouts were in the lead for the first time in the game 17-15.
Going into the final period, Scouts found renewed energy and determination and dug in to not let the away side put more points on the board. The defence line held strong and where at times last season in a similar situation we would crumble, today it didn't. The team worked hard collectively in the autumn sunshine and saw the game out to win 17-15.
Whilst this is our first game of a long season and there will be many a tough game to come, the foundation for the future is bright.
