This was a rather chastening experience for the U12s.
Due to a late withdrawal the group consisted of only 3 teams – Scouts, Bedford and Old Albanians. In order to negate any playing time advantage over the other group with 4 teams, the matches consisted of 30 minutes each – longer than our lads had played before! As luck (planning?) would have it Scouts had to play their matches back to back – this with only 2 replacements and against probably 2 of the strongest teams they are likely to face all season! Both matches ended fairly predictably in substantial defeats.
In spite of the results, the lads showed resolve and despite being desperately tired towards the end kept on giving 100% effort. As a squad of 15 they should be proud of their commitment against teams who have squads of 3,4 or 5 times that many.
Well done to Lenny who made his debut for the team this week. Special mention must go to Rhys who was outstanding today. He was a terrier in defence, tackling tenaciously and going forwards he always made ground often taking 2 or 3 defenders to stop him.
Keep your heads up lads. You made all us parents proud.
