Scouts controlled the game for three quarters of the match but had to work hard for the four points in the final quarter.
After fifteen minutes an Adam Frost kick out of defence was well chased by winger George Barrett who deftly chipped the ball forward to score under the sticks for Frost to convert.
The remainder of the half was played in the middle of the park and was a scrappy affair. Scouts did have a couple of chances that went begging and the Stags scored a penalty on the stroke of half time.
The visitors increased their lead early in the second half with Scouts backs combining well to set up Barrett who screamed past several wayward tacklers to score his second try and again Frost added the extras. The following twenty minutes was fairly non-descript until Frost added a penalty with ten minutes left of normal time.
Scouts were then hit by a cyclone of attacks and defended their line heroically until their line was breached with two minutes left.
The referee then added several minutes of extra time and Stags continued to batter Scouts line looking for a potential try to draw the match but the visitors solid defence held out to the end, even though they finished with twelve men due to yellow cards.
