The much anticipated trip to Bedford Ath ended in a loss for the Scouts despite a monumental shift from the squad.
The games was full of promise, but instead the first half was diabolical for Scouts. In fact the first 10 minutes were. They had conceded two tries and were down to 14 men as Matt Meek received a red card at 5 minutes.
The situation was difficult to snap out of and apart from Nunleys interception try, it was a very one sided half. What made it more unusual was you could see the Scouts were very capable of beating The Ath, but just could not keep the ball. The bump and bounce of the 4G pitch definitely not helping as Scouts haven't played on one for a whole season.
With a hell of a task ahead, the match day squad were tremendous and flipped the script. Despite being one man down, they ran harder than before, held the scrums, chased every break through and ended up 'winning' the second half. The Ath did not score a single point.
The problem for The Scouts was the damage was done in the first half. Had the game gone on another 5 minutes there is no doubt they would have won, but it was one score too far for them.
It doesn't mean the season is a write off, it just means every game becomes important if they want the top spot back.
