Olney beaten at home by a determined Scouts

Saturday was a glorious day for rugby. Cold and crisp, sunny, dry and the perfect day for Scouts to take on the unpredictable Olney.

Playing at Olney is not easy and after being on the end of a hard loss earlier in the season, the Scouts predicted they would face a revengeful Olney. They certainly did and Scouts had to be on their best to secure the win.

The final score of 57-14 looks fantastic and it was much deserved, but could have been very different. Olney should have scored more, and Scouts produced some fantastic rugby and should have scored more.
The first try came at just 6 minutes and a well worked set piece gave space for centre Dean Lake to glide through a scattered Olney defence. The score highlighted how Lake has been the fulcrum of all good things in the backline this year. Conversion by Will Brenan.

As expected, Olney came back hard and scored 6 minutes later. Almost immediately, another Scouts leader, Captain Dolman scored another solid team try and things were back on track. Scouts then defended very well and snuck in a try from Jervis against play before he scored a 2nd just before the half time whistle. The speedy wingers second try gave the Scouts a comforting half time lead of 26-7.

A lot of positives had been taken from the first half, and like games before it was like a warm up to the main event. Apart from a blip at 50 minutes the Scouts scored some cracking tries including one from Ollie Skipper who has continued to impress in the spotlight of the 1st team. The young centre has had game time on the wing and his power from that position fits the Scouts play.

Second half tries from Sharpe, a lovely cross kick collection from Jervis, Skipper, Rodella and finally a waltz in to the corner from Callum Inwood meant a resounding win. Olney had been outclassed and the frustration on their faces was plain to see.

As mentioned earlier, there had been some tries left out there. But when you see what was scored, it maybe gives credit to Olney who chased everything. What this means is that the game was far from perfect and the coaches need to pick through the fine detail to prepare for Market Harborough. Its going to be a good one.

Man of the Match = Cameron Sharpe, honourably collected by Coach Jack Green
