Old Scouts impress with bonus point win

The Northampton Old Scouts maintain their top league spot and make it 9 from 9 after beating Leicester Forest at Rushmere road.

Scouts impressed in the opening 30 minutes as tries from wingers Alex Jordan and 2 from Noah Jervis, plus 6 points from the boot of Will Brenan put them 21-0 up. That may sound easy, but it was certainly not. The Scouts made it look easy by hard graft and giving one of the best 30 minutes we have seen them play all year.

Leicester Forest had no answer and didn't know what to do. ( Their team chat behind the posts was rather colourful! )

Half time came and with their opponents battle worn, Scouts set about building on their score but instead faced a Forest side determined to make amends. They kept the ball in their heavy pack and worked a score at 50 minutes. But any hopes of a Forest comeback were dashed when replacement Callum Inwood scored to take the Scouts 33-7 up, with the help of 5 points from Will Brenan.

The last quarter was very scrappy. Forest were hell bent on making it a very disruptive game and after 2 yellow cards for Scouts they got a try right at the final whistle taking it to 33-14.

The Scouts squad were very pleased with their efforts for the day and the next 3 weeks will have a significant impact on the league. Next week is Lutterworth away and then Market Harborough is on the 2nd December. If any team can stretch the Scouts then it will be one of these two, however, the weekend showed they are very hard to beat.
