The Northampton Old Scouts delivered a gritty win over the potential banana skin of Olney RFC.
Before Fridays game coaches Karl Braband and Jack Green had some extremely tough selection decisions to be made. With strong options in most positions, the squad that took to the field were brimming with eagerness to put in a good shift. A worry for any side in this league.
We have started well this season, but from the whistle it was Olney that started well. Putting the Scouts under lots of pressure and earning 3 points. Scouts first try came from Noah Jervis and was against the run of play, however the young winner is in such fine form at the moment you simply cannot give him space. Its a forgone conclusion.
That try opened up a barrage of points from the Scouts and they punished Olney to a half time score of 24-6. Tries from Jervis, Dolman, Sharpe and Simmons. Lock Simmons was trying to emulate winger Jervis with a sprint to the corner, but we think his multi positional days are over.
Olney had defended well and were one of the best sides we had played so far this season, but they made the mistake of giving Jervis space again and Noah scored within 2 minutes of the half starting.
Olney did do their best to fight back and their defence was very strong at times, but the attack didn't cut the mustard and Scouts continued with scores from Sharpe and another from Jervis giving him his hat trick. Will Brenan also kicked 8 points from 4 conversion.
There was a penalty try given to Olney at 76 minutes which was very frustrating as the lads almost went a second week without conceding a try. The final whistle went and it was another successful Friday Night Lights
