It was a winning start to the Scouts defence of the Alliance Cup, but they were certainly made to work for it by a tough Towcester side.
Towcester hasn't visited Rushmere road for a significant time, and as we knew little about their squad, the 1st XV were prepared for the game. Towcester ending up being hard working and awkward at times, much to the frustration of the Scouts. The home side never truly got a dominant grip on the game, they just kept scoring.
For the spectators it was a good game to watch and a reminder of how important it is to keep local cup competitions alive.
For now, its a start, but we know that tougher tests are on their way.
