The Northampton Old Scouts got through their 3rd and final pool game in the Papa Johns Cup against an unexpectedly tough Lichfield side.
It was always going to be a difficult fixture. Scouts have dished out two heavy losses to the teams who had both beaten Lichfield and the visiting side travelled down with nothing to lose.
We see awkward games in sport many times and this was no different, with the home side down 14-3 after 20 minutes. The Scouts just didn't seem themselves and could not get their rhythm.
The scores did come including a charging run from Ollie Holliday, a full length effort from Jervis and one from young winger Martel Wolfenden, but it took until the final kick of the game to secure the win.
Scouts have relied on the boot of Will Brennan all year and he sprinkled the magic dust again, with a lovely penalty at 80 minutes.
It was a gritty win and even more experience for the young academy players getting senior rugby time.
Man of the Match = Jack Evans
So this week it is Selby RFC. Undoubtably they will be better than what we have played so far and will be a challenge the squad will relish. It is very rare to come to Rushmere road and get a win, and the game will be great to watch.
