Whilst Scouts came away 24 points to nil victors, they had to earn every point in this physical game, which saw both sides put in fine performances.
Scouts always had the belief that once they got on top that they could control the game, however after an early penalty miss it took a good 20 minutes into the first half for Scouts to get on the scoreboard with a try from Tom Holliday, which had completed several waves of attacks. With the extras being added by Christian Barry, Scouts took a slender 7 points to nil margin into half time.
As the second half unfolded it was much of the same with both teams working hard, however it was always felt that Scouts were in control with superb stern defence and the ability to turn defence into attack at any given opportunity. Fifteen minutes into the second and after good attacking play from the visitors, Scouts turned over ball inside their own half and following good handling and support play in the midfield, flying winger Bradley Small crashed over in the left hand corner, which with the extras added again by Barry, this took the hosts into a 14 points to nil margin, one which they never felt like giving up.
With confidence now high Scouts were running back almost every ball they got their hands on and after a huge burst through the midfield by the impressive Micaiah Ramsey making his home debut, he finished this off with a 50 yard run under the posts, but regrettably the extras were not added on this occasion. To finish, immediately from the kick off, Scouts attacked again, which flanker James Lovell sprinted in from 30 yards into the corner, again with no extras.
With the scoreboard at 24 points to nil and just minutes left, Scouts knew that it was their hard work and impressive defence that won them this great victory against a very good, physical Wellingborough side.
Whilst it is unfair to single out individuals when the whole squad play their part, it is important to note that prop Ben Miller had a great game in the loose and hooker Lewis Underwood had an immense game all over the park and proving to be a big threat whenever he got his hands on the ball.
A great game of rugby, played in great spirit from two good sides.
