A Win's A Win

Won 22-20 (Tries: Adam (3), Caleb; Con: Caleb)

A blustery, chilly, but dry Friday evening saw Scouts win their first game of the season at Long Buckby.

Unfortunately, they started this match as they finished the previous one, with handling errors and missed tackles, thus giving the home side a 15-0 early advantage through 2 tries, a conversion and a penalty kick. Fortunately, the scrum was still working and continued pressure at the set piece was winning good ball for the backs to work with. The game was turned on its head with two Scouts tries just before half-time. Firstly, an incisive run by Adam gave Caleb an easy run in and then Adam himself scored, outsprinting Buckby’s defence. Caleb duly converted to give the score a more respectable looking 15-12 at half-time.

Weak tackles again cost Scouts dear at the beginning of the second half for Long Buckby to increase their lead to 20-12. To their credit, Scouts fought back and Adam scored his 2nd try of the evening. The forwards now had the momentum and following a number of phases, the ball was fed out to Adam to complete his hat-trick.

With the score now 22-20 in Scouts favour, the home side lost another player through injury. Having already borrowed two from Scouts (thanks Alec & Peter), they didn’t have enough players to continue and the game finished early and was duly awarded to Scouts.

Another frustrating Jeckyll & Hyde performance from Scouts, but overall, they probably deserved the victory and their first in the league this season!
