Against a well organised and resolute Huntingdon side Scouts continued to lose their way this season .On the day the better side won. Huntingdon were hungry for a win and committed to each breakdown throughout the game. Their tries both came from simple pressure on the ball culminating in breakaways ,a kick through from their own 22 for their first try and a pick up from a loose ball that Scouts did not take ownership of on the half way for their second.
Scouts 5 Nil up in the first half and with missed opportunities seemed rusty as a team and lacked the overall game dominance that we are used to seeing. It was however expected that they would come out of the blocks in the second half and show what we all know the lads can do. It was however not to be . The general malaise and expectancy to win without putting in the hard yards continued to give up ball. Scouts failed to be able to put together any phases of connected play .Don't get me wrong throughout Scouts defended well and showed flashes of what should have been. However dropped balls, bad ball retention and indiscipline at the breakdown gave Huntingdon the impetus and confidence they needed. The two break away tries, one converted, put Huntingdon 12-5 up with 10 minutes to go. Scouts threw everything at Huntingdon in the last 10 going close but only managing to put a further 3 points on the board with a penalty in from of the posts.
This loss has been coming and the lads must now respond by putting in the hard work needed to return them to winning ways. They now know that wins have to be earned. Our congratulations to Huntingdon for a well played and dominant display.
