Scouts went to Towcester knowing that their opposition was buoyed by their promotion to the top division and also additional players recruited during the Summer. It was obvious from the start that they were up for a fight with the scouts being pinned in their 22 early on in the encounter. Scouts as in the previous game had been slow to wake up but remained strong in defense slowly wearing down the Towcester forwards and their momentum fuelled by optimism. Scores were level after 25 mins at 0-0 showing the competitiveness of the game but more and more Scouts were making the breaks and inroads into the Towcester defence and looking more likely to score. Scouts did not disappoint us as a slick move sent Dexter Watts over the line to put down under the posts. Ben Rivens added the 2 to put Scouts 7-0 in the lead. Scouts continued to dominate but were guilty of continuing to give away possession and avoidable penalties allowing a penalty chance to Towcester just before the break. Penalty converted we went in to the break 7-3 in the lead.

The second half continued as the first half finished with Scouts dominating the play and looking the most likely to score. Good work from the forwards continued to give the back line clean ball allowing Oliver Sleightholme (2) and Zac (1) to go over for well worked tries , taking Scouts in a strong 22-3 lead. Towcester continued to fight going over to score an unconverted try near the end which only spurred Scouts back to life scoring a penalty taken well be Ben Rivens and an almost try from Harry Relf ruled out for a double movement.

All in All a good day .Plenty to work on (too many penalties conceded and balls lost in contact areas) and plenty more improvement to be looked for. One particular area of praise is for the way the lads kept a lid on their tempers. This was throughout a feisty encounter which could have boiled over if the lads had allowed the situation get to them. They didn't and did their talking on the scoreboard recording a well deserved victory in this first league encounter of the New Season.Win 25-8
