Colts So Close

Scouts came within a whisker of upsetting Wellingborough who must have been contemplating an easy afternoon following their comprehensive victory earlier in the season. However, Scouts Colts have come a long way since then and are now a different proposition.

Following a fairly low-key start to the game, Wellingborough took the early spoils and scored 2 tries, 1 converted to lead 12-0. Scouts increasingly put pressure on the Wellingborough try line as the half progressed and thought they had scored, but the referee adjudged that the ball had been held up over the line and the score remained 12-0 at half time.

Scouts started the second half strongly and had a second “try” disallowed, the referee again saying that the ball hadn’t been grounded. They eventually got their score when Jack scored a try, which he duly converted.

A penalty for off-side lead to Wellingborough kicking what was to prove a decisive penalty to increase the lead to 15-7. Scouts were now the better team and when Jack charged down an attempted clearance to score his second try, they were within a score of their opponents with approx. 5 minutes remaining. Unfortunately, however they couldn’t find the all important score and ended agonisingly short of what would have been an impressive victory.

They now need to carry this form and confidence into the cup game with BBOB this weekend.
