Vs Casuals 9.2.19 (Referee’s Cup)
Won 39-5 (Tries: Peter, Adam, Kieran, Ollie D.(2) Alex M.; Con: Jack (2), Caleb; Pen: Jack)
After a number of games where Scouts have shown glimpses of what they can do, have had spells of dominance, but have ended in disappointing results, today they played from start to finish and completed a comprehensive victory over a spirited, but ultimately outplayed Casuals team.
Casuals started brightly and put Scouts under significant pressure in the early stages of the game, however whereas previously Scouts have conceded early “soft” tries, today they were “on it” from the start and determined and resolute defence kept Casuals out. Having weathered this early onslaught, Scouts scored against the run of play when an interception by Jack resulted in the ball being fed out to Peter on the wing to dot down. Scouts increased their lead when they forced Casuals into mistakes and Adam scored in the same corner to make the half-time score 10-0.
The second half was pretty much all Scouts! Jack kicked a penalty following another Casuals misdemeanour and almost immediately from the restart, Kieran scored under the posts. The conversion from Jack made the score 20-0 in Scouts favour and Casuals resolve was finally broken.
It was great to see Reece back after about 4 months out through injury and his break lead to Scouts 4th try from Ollie D. Alex M then scored and Caleb’s conversion from the touchline added to Casuals misery, which was completed when Ollie D. scored his second try of the afternoon, converted by Jack.
To their credit, Casuals kept fighting and they had the last word, scoring a deserved consolation try late on. However, this didn’t detract from what was a very good Scouts performance. Scouts played with an increasing confidence. They cut down on turnovers conceded and on the penalty count from previous weeks and showed what they can achieve when it all comes together.
