Great Improvement for Colts

In a high scoring encounter, Scouts ran in 8 tries in a performance that had been coming for a while. In previous matches they had shown glimpses of what they are capable of, but today it finally all came together and resulted in a thoroughly deserved win.

The backs looked slick and sharp with some good handling and movement and the forwards were combative and competitive with the line out especially working well.

Peterborough got the first score, but this was a much more positive Scouts side than previous matches and they came storming back to score 2 forwards’ tries through Sammy and then a catch and drive from a line-out with Jake finishing off. Then Peterborough scored a quick brace of tries of their own to go into a 17-10 lead. Again, though Scouts fought back with the backs now getting on the score sheet, firstly from Liam and then George proving too fast and elusive for the visitor’s defence and with Alex landing his first conversion of the afternoon, Scouts went into half-time leading 22-17.

The second half started with a bang with Adam scoring (again converted by Alex) and then Liam scoring a superb second try. And when Caleb scored a trademark length of the field try, Alex’s conversion made the score 41-17 and out of reach of the visitors. Scouts lost concentration briefly to allow Peterborough 2 more scores to make the scoreline slightly more respectable. However, Scouts rightly had the last say when Kieran scored under the posts to give Alex an easy conversation and to complete the scoring.

A much more consistent performance by Scouts (despite a couple of “lazy” passages of play) and a much more positive vibe around the team leading into this weekend’s league clash with Casuals.
