Scouts Come From Behind To Deny Casuals

This was a tough encounter for Scouts as they came up against a much improved Casuals side who presented problems throughout the match. The visitors big, powerful pack proved difficult to counteract especially throughout the first half at a windy, but fine Rushmere Road.

Scouts were again indebted to members of the U15s squad in order for them to put out a full XV plus reserves, which are so important at this age group.

Neither side could establish dominance in the first half. Both teams enjoyed periods of pressure, but both were guilty of giving away penalties at crucial moments, denying them the opportunity to put points on the board. Accordingly, the half time whistle came with a stalemate and no points for either teams’s endeavours.

Scouts began the second half on top with a period of sustained possession and territory. However, it was Casuals who took the lead when Scouts coughed up the ball and a breakaway lead to the first try of the match. With the conversion going over, Scouts found themselves 7-0 down. However, they carried on as before and again forced Casuals into a period of prolonged defence. Scouts finally got their deserved try when Sam from the U15s squad finally managed to touch down. Unfortunately, Caleb couldn’t convert from wide out in the windy conditions.

Scouts were now beginning to dominate proceedings and Casuals were punished for repeated infringements when Caleb kicked a penalty in front of the posts to ease Scouts into a slender 8-7 lead. With Casuals now wilting, Scouts had the final say when Caleb scored in the corner with the last move of the match to leave the final score 13-7 in Scouts favour.

Well done again to the U15 squad members, none of whom looked out of place at this age group.

Player of the match was Alex Mitchell who saved Scouts on a couple of occasions with important tackles, without which Casuals would surely have scored further tries.
