U10s v Long Buckby

Today's matches saw the U-10s come up against their conquerors from last week's final, Long Buckby.
The games took place on the same pitch, which only a few weeks ago was a sticky, soggy bog. However, this week it was so hard and barren that it more resembled some sort of lunar landscape and was so hard that studs were unable to give purchase and were swapped for trainers before the start of the games.

1st Match – Lost 6-1.
The team for the first match was mainly made up of the lads who didn't take part in last week's festival. Despite their best efforts, they were overpowered by a much stronger team. They weren't helped in their cause by their failure to retain the ball at the breakdown and had possession turned over on too many occasions. Despite a couple of spirited runs from Callum and Aaron's sniping at the scrums, the first half saw Long Buckby build a 5-0 lead.
The second half saw a much improved display with more or less the same team being employed for the whole match. Unfortunately Aaron was forced off with a blood injury with Lawrenze taking his place and scoring Scouts only try of the match with the last play of the game. This was just reward for a rejuvenated second half display.

2nd Match – Lost 3-2.
A much more competitive game saw Scouts take a 2-0 half-time lead with tries from Lawrenze and Rhys who appeared to have lost the ball in the tackle only to rip it back again and score.
Unfortunately old habits came back to haunt Scouts in the second half. Once again the inability to retain the ball cost them dear with Long Buckby overturning the first half deficit to win the game 3-2.

Due to the dangerous condition of the ground, it was decided not to play a third match. Players of the week were awarded to Aaron & Sam.

No match next week due to Easter and the boys being on tour the following weekend. Your roving reporter will hopefully be there to report on all the highlights (and otherwise) of the Deep South tour.
