A game (or 3) of 2 halves

Having just about dried out from yesterday the U-10s played 3 matches at Oundle in much better weather conditions with Red Kites circling overhead. The coaches decided to play the majority of the “Lions” squad for the first half of the matches with the 2nd half team consisting mainly of the “Tigers” squad.

1st Match: Lost 6-4
Unfortunately the boys still seemed to be asleep in the first half, not really being in the game apart from a couple of good runs from Rhys with Oundle running in 5 unanswered tries.
The second half began in much better fashion with Lawrenze touching down for the first of his 3 tries. Following a breakaway try for the home team, the Scouts forwards took a firm grip on the game with 2 more Lawrenze tries coming from good, strong scrums. The scoring was completed when Rhys scored following a strong run from Sam E.

2nd Match: Lost 3-1
Oundle again opened the scoring early with their second try benefiting from a couple of hand-offs missed by the referee. Scouts, however improved as the half wore on forcing the home team into a series of handling errors and they were unlucky to concede a further try just before the break.
Scouts battled all the way in the second half and deservedly scored the only try of the half through Rhys once Ruaridh had broken through the first line of defence.

3rd Match: Lost 4-3
The first half showed a hugely improved performance by the “Lions” squad who fought back from another early try by the home side and appeared to have scored a good try only for it to be disallowed by the referee for reasons only known by himself(!). The teams then took it in turns to score with Scouts tries coming from Rhys and Lucas to see the half time whistle coming with the score 4-2 to Oundle.
Despite Oundle enjoying the majority of territory in the second half, the only score came when Ruaridh seized on a loose ball and sprinted to the try line with 2 Oundle defenders trailing in his wake.

These games were noticeable for the considerable improvement shown by the “Lions” squad in particular who now appear to be getting used to playing as a team and supporting each other all around the pitch.

Well done to the Men of The Match winners, Lawrenze (his second of the weekend) and Rhys.
