U10s v Men's Own

Scouts vs Men's Own

On 29th January the U10s entertained Men's Own on a complete bog of a pitch. Despite the conditions the boys of both teams played some excellent rugby.

Game 1 – Drew 2-2
The game started with Scouts on the attack, however despite their best endeavours they could not get over the Men's Own line and were nearly caught by a breakaway try, but a try saving tackle by Sam E denied them. Unsurprisingly the ball became very slippy in the bog and following a knock-on by Scouts, Men's Own came very close again and this time only a fine tackle from Rhys kept them out. However they soon took the lead following a penalty close to Scouts line. Despite good pressure from Scouts the half time whistle came with the score at 1-0 to Men's Own .

The second half began badly with Scouts losing possession close to line and Men's Own capitalising to go 2 up. However, Scouts upped their game again and scored 2 excellent tries through Sam E. & Jacob T. to make the final score 2-2.

Game 2 – Lost 3-1
The game started with a completely different side to that which finished the first match. Scouts again started strongly, but in a repeat of game 1, Men's Own almost scored a breakaway try following lost possession, But it was Lewis's turn to prevent the score this time. Unfortunately, however Men's Own scored twice. Firstly from a penalty and then through some good tight forward play.
Straight from the re-start Dom almost scored a brilliant individual try, however from the resulting scrum Josh forced his way over to make the half-time score 2-1.

Men's Own created some early pressure in the second half, but some good scrummaging and tackling forced them to make mistakes in the mud. Scouts continued to dominate in the set pieces, but it was the opposition who scored again to make the final score 3-1.

Game 3 – Lost 6-2
The same team who played the first game began game 3, however Men's Own scored the first try of the match having retained the ball through a number of phases. Scouts equalised shortly after when Lawrenze collected the ball following a scrum close to the Men's Own line. Scouts then took the lead through Rhys after a superb drive by the forwards set Sam E. away. Scouts therefore went into half-time with a deserved 2-1 lead.

Scouts fielded an almost completely different team for the second half. Unfortunately Men's Own ran in 5 unanswered tries to win the match 6-2.

Despite the boggy conditions some of the passing and off-loading displayed this week was really good and throughout all the matches the Scouts forwards had dominance in the set scrums.

Players of the week this week were Sam E & Dom. Congratulations to them and well done to everyone in such wet conditions.
