Winter is here, but so are the SCOUTS!

Well winter arrived on Sunday as we all travelled to the always welcoming Olney

The majority of the squad made the trip across the county border club of Olney. Olney are always a good test for us, well drilled and a strong squad is a given at any fixture. Sunday was no different. With both sides playing mixed ability teams it was a day for rolling subs, just to keep the boys warm. With a few out with illness and injury we were still able to field two good strong teams, thanks to the progress the squad has made in training.

It would be fair to say that this wasn't a day of good running rugby as the ball didn't get moved as much as the coaches would have liked. That said the individual efforts the boys put in were impressive. Jamie Hewitt, Oscar Young, Aiden Duffy and Toby Heath showed some real determination on the pitch. As ever Tom Bates put in some big hits until he took a blow to the neck which meant he had to come off for safety (not just him but the opposition as well! :-) ). A special mention for Sam "Strictly" Robinson for his dancing feet that saw him step most of the opposition to score as well as fearlessly chasing down the "Fijian" (as the boys referred to him) lad who was literally twice the size of him!!!

On the other team, hard work was put in by Ben Hurrell knocking the attackers down like bowling pins! Harry Wallinger and Jake Monk worked hard all morning, even George Berry managed to steal a few tries, one of which involved snaking his way down the wing to the line! He was trying to emulate Coach Ricky, but I told him he has to work harder to be that good, maybe just focus on Marcus "in the book" Bates' standard for now ;-)

Our two players of the week put in some hard graft all morning Ethan Swallow for his continuous tackles and Jonas Hefford for his determination in the ruck, boys, take a bow.
