This week the team played against Wellingborough RFC, time to see what we've learnt in training!
The RFU has designed the new rules of play for mini and junior rugby (here) so that each season the players develop one or two new skills at a time. This season is the ruck, maul and introduction to the scrum.
We have been working on these in training but we only really test what the squad has learnt in live games. This week proved to be a test! Wellingborough are a great club and had clearly been working on the ruck, the importance of which we had learnt from our meetings with the now under 11s coaches.
With three mixed sides rotating play against two from Wellingborough the squad worked hard. It was fair to say not the best performance as a whole but we did see some promising work from the squad. Something that is always really pleasing to see is individual players progressing and improving. We don't want players comparing themselves to each other, they all have different qualities, we want them looking at what they did last week and beating that. One example would be Aiden Duffy. He worked hard, putting in several low tackles which was really good to see, keep it up.
Our player of the week also demonstrated a hard work and determination. Heath McGregor put in several storming runs to put the ball over, well done Heath.
Late report this week, apologies, week from hell!!
