This week the boys remembered a very special Old Scout

The last training session before our first home game and guests of honour to present the squad with their own first club shirt.

The session was full on this week, with the team being worked hard through two skills stations and a fitness circuit (although Mark and I was sweating more than the kids!). Trying to keep a large active group of players busy is becoming a challenge, but the coaches enjoy these sessions, as their enthusiasm is great to see. The skills of rucking and tackling were perfected ready for our first test against Wellingborough.

A number of players were mentioned in the debrief, several got bumped and knocked but in true rugby spirit got back up and were joining in and smiling by the end of the session. One particular player was Joe Evans. Jo is a quiet tank! he isn't the most vocal on the pitch but he impressed the coaches this week with his endless drive forward and focus on the drills and game. This weeks Player of the week.

At the end of the session James introduced the squad to two very special guests, Lee and Georgia Ghaut. Dad (Mum Jo was at a charity run) and sister to Luis Ghaut who was a very brave Old Scout who sadly lost his battle with cancer exactly two years ago today ( 23rd September). I briefly knew Luis as he was on my older sons team at the Scouts, but what struck anyone who came into contact with him was the apparent determination he faced his challenges. He inspired so many people he came into contact with. Rugby was a big part of his support, from team mates at the club to the Saints players that welcomed him to the gardens. The under 10s now proudly wear the LU15 charity logo on their match shirts.

James talked to the squad about what playing for a team meant; as you know a rugby shirt is very special. It is a sign that the person wearing the shirt is not alone, that they belong to something bigger..... There will be times where you are having a tough time on the rugby pitch. you might be hurting, you might not be playing well. You may be being beaten badly - these are the times where you need to be brave and strong. At these times take a look at Luis' logo, remember him, remember his bravery. Get up and fight. With a smile on your face, just like Luis did. #oneinallin.
