With the Alliance cancelled due to water logged pitches, the under 9s go to Towcester.

This week the fixtures managed to align the Alliance Festival with Mothers Day! So when the tournament was cancelled the boys chose to treat their mums to a cold and windy morning at Towcester for a friendly with Bugbrooke coming along as well.

With 18 of the squad making the trip we were able to put out two teams to face Towcesters two tournament teams and a development side. The morning was cold and windy but clear and mostly dry.

The boys battled hard, taking a little while to get going. Although the boys enjoy playing matches, with the limited training days we've had this season, it took a while to get into our stride.

Towcester are well drilled and moved the ball well with a strong defence. The squad made good use of the newly learnt set piece moves, which mostly worked! As always the Scouts played a good defensive game, gaining a number of 7 tackle turnovers and had to work hard on the attack due to Towcesters strong defence. Thomas Bates managed another one of his steals and trip down the pitch to score (I think he sprays his hands with glue before each game?), Max Botterill made several good runs in the last match streaking down the wing a couple of times to gain some morale boosting points and perfecting his tackling skills.

Whilst we were in attack, Towcester had to contend with Archie "Maori Sidestep" Edwards as he battled his way to the try line. In defence there was no good news for the home team as they had to contend with Ernie "Hitman" Jackson. Both putting in some massive efforts all morning.

A good work out for the squad, for a friendly it was tough day. Luckily Coach Kelvin (as he is from around these parts ) was being friendly and using his charm on the locals to keep them all smiling.

The cold didn't help when several players took some hard knocks, but the boys showed determination and maturity by getting up and playing on. This weeks player of the week took 3 or 4 hard blows, to his credit maintained his control and put it back into the game making some excellent tackles along the way. Well done to Ben Hurrell
