Hard fought battles at both ends of Rushmere Road!

This week the under 9s took on the ONs, home and away!

ONS @ Home - Dave, Nathan and Head Coach James.

With two teams of 7 with no subs, we knew that today was going to be hard work. With both clubs streaming their players to ensure a matched game, the sides were well balanced for the 2 x 2 matches that followed. From the start the action was incredible. Where ONs were well drilled in offloading the ball, the Scouts countered with an excellent defensive line. All the boys putting in tackle after tackle, supporting each other if needed, gaining a number of 7 tackle turn overs. ONs didnt give up, they moved well, recycled the ball and kept coming.

Playing two games against an equally matched team is hard work. A number of players suffered some hard knocks, but after catching their breath, they got up and got straight back in. Archie Edwards took a few heavy hits which reflected the effort he was putting in, staying on the pitch, making several excellent runs down the line. Although the score line was reasonably low, the tries were all earned, there was no runaway scores. The boys off loading picked up well, Ernie setting up Jonas for a try (something coaches always admire in a young players), Lovely Luke working as hard as always, tackle after tackle. constantly. Ben working his way through for a cheeky one in the corner! As I told the boys, one of my proudest moments at the Scouts watching the effort the boys put in, and actually playing some excellent TEAM rugby.

Player of the week at home went to Ethan Swallow. Ethan always works hard, reads the game well and supports the whole time he is on the pitch. well done Ethan.

The ONs were good, I have to say their South African Ref (apologies, I didn't get his name) was excellent with the boys, but overall it was a home win for the Scouts fortress :-)
