This week the squad made the journey out to Oundle RFC. We enjoyed another fantastic autumn sunny morning of rugby, welcomed by the coaches and players from Oundle.
The squad was split into 3 mixed ability sides to take on Oundles 3 teams in a round robin tournament. The majority of the squad were there to allow us to deliver some excellent performances and gain valuable game experience. The morning was beneficial from a coaches perspective as Oundle seemed to have streamed their squad into a 1st team and two mixed teams. This allowed those still gaining in confidence to get stuck in, but the 1st team provided a challenge to the more confident players.
It is pleasing to see some of the new lads gaining confidence on the pitch, putting in tackles and passing the ball. As always the coaches walk away with a list of things to work on, so we can continue to improve throughout the season. The head coach James has his eye on future tournaments coming up where we are restricted on the number of players we can take, so as always the boys need to continue their hard work to book their place!
Player of the week award this week went to a new player Harry Franklin. I have watched Harry settle in and he impresses me because he listens to coaching advice, he is beginning to read the flow of the game. He never shys away from the contact and for a big lad has a great chop tackle technique that is proving very effective regardless of the size of the opposition. well done Harry, keep it up.
Finally the squad has adopted the "Movember Campaign" as Mini Mo Bros. Each week the boys will play or train in a different "MO" and will be seeking sponsorship for a great cause. This originated with Tobys big brother William who plays for the u13s. Feel free to donate to Williams page Williams Page
