Scouts cruised to a comfortable victory over their previously unbeaten Leicestershire opponents and arguably should have put more points on the board.

Scouts cruised to a comfortable victory over their previously unbeaten Leicestershire opponents and arguably should have put more points on the board.
Fly half Adam Frost opened Scouts account with a penalty after two minutes and then added the extras with a soaring conversion from the touchline after winger Ben Crossland had finished off a sweeping movement. Crossland was making his debut senior appearance having missed over a season with injury since moving up from Colts rugby.
A flurry of penalties resulted in Frost scoring for Scouts sandwiched by two for the visitors to make the score 13 – 6 in Scouts favour after twenty minutes.
Frost added his third penalty and then full back Tom Powell took off on a trademark mazy run that mesmerized Wyggs defence before he crossed the line to dot down.
The hosts were now in total command and should have a scored again when a few swift passes had opened up enough space but the final pass from Aaron Ashmore was intercepted by Wyggs to stop the move dead in its tracks.
Wyggs had a penalty attempt bounce off the upright in the last minute of the half and the ball was safely caught by hooker Jim Smith. The ball was cleared and Scouts went into the changeover with a 21 – 6 lead.
Scouts were in the driving seat even though they were forced to defend for long periods in the second half. With ten minutes remaining replacement flanker Luke Reeves made the game safe when he broke away and, with a choice of supporting players on either side of him, passed inside for Powell to score his second of the day. Frost slotted the conversion.
At this point the hosts were searching for a try bonus point but some over-elaborated moves unfortunately did not produce the elusive score. Crossland came closest but lost the ball as he was tackled in the corner in the last minute of the game.
Flanker Sam McGee earned the man of the match award for a tireless, grafting performance in the back row.
