Scouts picked up four valuable points in a tough encounter

Scouts picked up four valuable points in a tough encounter with Lutterworth who had decisively beaten them in the last game of last season.
There was a large crowd on a hot summers day in anticipation of witnessing the Scouts League debut of former Saints and England winger Ben Cohen.
Cohen is looking to help out at his former club when available and was scheduled to begin on the bench but was forced to start after Russell Lynch was injured in the warm up.
The visitors applied plenty of pressure in the first quarter but Scouts repelled their attacks, although a couple of penalty shots from the Lutterworth kicker had sailed wide.
Scouts began to battle their way back into the game and were eventually rewarded with the first score of the game when prop Maurice Bazzini crashed over. Fly half Adam Frost, also on league debut, converted.
Lutterworth replied quickly with a penalty that bounced in off the post and before half time converted a second and the half finished with Scouts in the lead 7 points to 6.
The second half commenced with Lutterworth again on the attack, and again Scouts defence was standing firm. Frost added a second penalty to increase the lead but pressure in the scrums eventually led to a penalty try for the visitors which was duly converted.
The game was hanging in the balance even though Frost had added two more penalties to put Scouts back into the lead.
A penalty attempt to draw the game level barely took off the ground and the visitors then decided to continue to use their scrummaging as a weapon to force Scouts on to the back foot but Scouts dug deep and with plenty of encouragement from Cohen and the rest of the backs the forwards held firm.
There were several promising individual performances by Scouts players and No 8 Iain Simmonds was awarded the Man of the Match accolade for his sterling efforts at the base of the scrum.
Scouts face another tough fixture next week when they travel to face Market Harborough.
