Scouts attacked from the off and forced a lineout five meters out. The crooked throw gave Casuals the opportunity to clear their lines but they gave away a penalty at the scrum and Scouts, after a considerably length of time due to an injury to one of the visitors, took the lead when skipper Jordan Dolman crashed over from the base. New recruit Dan McNally, on his first start, slotted the extras and increased Scouts lead with a penalty soon after.
Casuals fought back and worked hard to create a hole in Scouts defence to cut the lead to three with a try through the middle.
Using the elements the hosts continued to push for a score and on the half hour Matthew Cockman made it into the corner. The conversion sailed wide of the sticks and within a few minutes Cockman found himself in the bin after he appeared to hold his ground when a chip went over his head. The visitors used the numerical advantage to score again through the middle and go into the break only a point behind.
The second half saw Scouts do most of the attacking but a combination of handling errors and over-elaborate play resulted in no tries for the hosts but they did force errors from Casuals defence which resulted in three penalties which McNally converted to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
It appeared to be a comfortable ten point lead until Scouts took their foot off the gas to allow their neighbours a soft try with a minute left on the clock. The quick drop kick conversion attempt was missed and Scouts ran the clock down to gain the win.
