Although the Scouts put up a great defence in the first half. Peterborough Lions moved the ball well, through the hands and out of the contact area to ensure they were getting in behind the back foot, which resulted in a try and conversion early in the first half. However the Scouts responded quickly, applying concerted effort of their own being awarded a penalty that was kicked by Sam French. Again, the Scouts battled courageously, but the physical battle took its toll with the visitors being awarded a dubious penalty, and scoring a very soft try just before half time. The first half finished 15-3.
Following an inspirational half time team talk from Captain Dan Warren and Head coach John Perks, the Scouts started very strongly having their fair share of possession and territory. Although due to a lack of concentration, and poor defence the Lions were gifted another soft try. The Scouts continued to battle hard, securing good clean ball in the set piece, but were unable to capitalize on this for long periods of the game.
The game continued with all 3 replacements being given the opportunity to make an impact, and with Jack Turner making his 1st team debut. He played a pivotal role in creating a try mid-way through the second half. Dan Warren continued to lead by example and was rewarded by scoring a well-worked team try. Although all the team played well, Richard Howard had a great game on the openside, making a nuisance of himself all afternoon.
However although the game finished 35-17 to Peterborough Lions the Scouts should not be disheartened as they demonstrated great team spirit which will set them up for a 'must win' game against away at Stockwood Park this Saturday.
