Russell Lynch put in a Man-of-the-Match performance at fly half, to steer Scouts to a well-deserved home victory against a strong Leicester Vipers side.

Scouts had the perfect start, enjoying the majority of play in the opening 5 minutes, by keeping the visitors on the back foot, and after some good tidy rucking and mauling, Scouts threw the ball out wide to allow winger Rob Cleary to run in the first try from 30 yards. With the conversion missed, Scouts knew that they had to work hard to stay on top, and whilst Vipers threw all they could at Scouts, their defence held firm and Scouts remained in control and after 20 minutes Lynch ran in under the posts and with the successful conversion, Scouts stretched their lead to a well-deserved 12 points.

As the first half entered it's final stages, Vipers got themselves on the score sheet following a kick over the top down the left wing, which their winger ran through to gather and scored, with the conversion being added.

Whilst Scouts had felt hard done by as this was the only obvious opportunity that Vipers had enjoyed in the Scouts half, Lynch pounced on a Vipers mistake from the restart and gave them the perfect reply, with a try under the post following a great solo run through the Vipers defence. Again with the added conversion Scouts then went in half time 19-7 and feeling pleased with their performance.

Skipper Dan '50 tackles' Warren led from the front, and kept Scouts defence in good shape, however as tiredness kick in, so did a few handling errors and whilst Scouts felt they had done enough they were some distance away from the final whistle.

Midway through the 2nd half, Vipers started to get some shape to their game and following a mix up in the Scouts defence under their own posts, Vipers dropped on a loose ball and were awarded the try, which the kick also added the extras.

With just under 10 nail-biting minutes left on the clock, Scouts worked hard to keep possession and held out to a well deserved home win 19-14.
